Tandem’s t:connect mobile app, which connects the t:slim X2 insulin pump to your smartphone, can soon be used to deliver your insulin boluses.

Delivering insulin with the t:slim X2 insulin pump has become more convenient with the FDA’s clearance of the t:connect mobile app to bolus insulin.

The t:connect app will enable users to deliver or cancel an insulin bolus directly from their phone. The app also displays glucose trends, pump status changes, and insulin therapy data, as well as basal and bolus deliveries, insulin delivery suspensions, alerts, and alarms.

The app is currently available on both Apple and Android mobile devices. The bolus feature, however, will be rolled out in phases via software updates throughout the second and third quarters of 2022.

The insulin pump can function independently from the t:connect app, so users can still view data and access pump features, including bolus delivery, via the pump directly.

For people who use the t:slim X2 insulin pump, or Tandem’s automated insulin delivery system, Control-IQ, this new feature could simplify interactions with their device.

“With the improvements in diabetes management provided by Tandem’s Control-IQ technology, giving a meal bolus is now the most common reason a person interacts with their pump, and the ability to do so using a smartphone app offers a convenient and discrete solution,” said John Sheridan,Tandem Diabetes Care President and CEO, in a press statement.
