JDRF Gives New Outreach Kit for Adults Newly Diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes

JDRF announced that it has a new Adult Type 1 Pak for adults who are newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The pack is similar to the Bag of Hope given to children who are newly diagnosed and is available to adults 16 years and older. A sling-style bag holds the materials: The Calorie King: Calorie Fat & Carbohydrate Counter, Bayer’s Contour next USB glucose meter, and Mary Tyler Moore’s memoir Growing Up Again, among other items. Bayer Healthcare, Medtronic, and Novo Nordisk have donated funds to support these outreach kits.

According to JDRF, every year about 15,000 children and 15,000 adults are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the US. These kits offer caring support for kids and adults when they receive the diagnosis. “JDRF is wholeheartedly committed to all people with type 1 diabetes, and adults make up 85 percent of that population,” said Jeffrey Brewer, president and CEO of JDRF (read our interview with Jeffrey Brewer). If you are interested in obtaining an Adult Type 1 Pak or a Bag of Hope, please contact your local chapter of JDRF. –MN
