Petition to Call on the FDA to Hold a Patient Meeting on Diabetes

Updated: 8/14/21 9:00 amPublished: 8/26/13

Here at diaTribe, we have written a lot about the role that the FDA has in diabetes care and advocated for more patient-centric programs. In the next two years, the FDA has planned to hold a series of 20 patient meetings, with each meeting focused on a different disease. So far, 16 diseases have been chosen, but diabetes – which affects 25.8 million people in the United States, plus another 79 million with prediabetes – is not one of them. There are only four slots left, so diaTribe has put together a petition at Change.org that asks the FDA to immediately add diabetes to the list. We need to tell our story to the FDA: about getting more accurate strips, bringing new therapies to market, and showing that patients care about this disease. We urge our readers to sign at diatribe.org/petition, and to spread awareness of diabetes and this important issue to their family and friends.  –NL
